The writing committee saw no need to reiterate the recommendations contained in those guidelines and chose to harmonize recommendations when appropriate and eliminate discrepancies. However, this guideline does address HF with preserved ejection fraction (EF) in more detail and similarly revisits hospitalized HF. The reader is referred to publically available resources to address questions in these areas. Although of increasing importance, HF in children and congenital heart lesions in adults are not specifically addressed in this guideline. ACCF/AHA Heart Failure Guideline This guideline covers multiple management issues for the adult patient with HF. †For comparative effectiveness recommendations (Class I and IIa Level of Evidence A and B only), studies that support the use of comparator verbs should involve direct comparisons of the treatments or strategies being evaluated. *Data available from clinical trials or registries about the usefulness/efficacy in different subpopulations, such as sex, age, history of diabetes, history of prior myocardial infarction, history of heart failure, and prior aspirin use. Although randomized trials are unavailable, there may be a very clear clinical consensus that a particular test or therapy is useful or effective. Many important clinical questions addressed in the guidelines do not lend themselves to clinical trials. Applying Classification of Recommendation and Level of EvidenceĪ recommendation with Level of Evidence B or C does not imply that the recommendation is weak.
